Greetings IARA Members,

This first edition newsletter is the beginning of what will be our series of e-newsletters on a trimester basis. The activities of the IARA will now be sent directly to you. It is also our intention to also seek contributory articles from members and non-members for the newsletter. Comments, newsletter contributions, and questions are welcome at info@iaraonline.org This letter will include a copy of the newsletter articles which are currently on the IARA website at www.iaraonline.org. A summary of our recent activities includes the following:

  1. IARA will be holding its roundtable meeting in Chicago July 21-23 at the Fairmont hotel. Rooms are available at a discounted rate. Registration is available on the IARA website. Please see the full agenda in this newsletter.
  2. The IARA has been working very diligently on the remarketing industry’s request to develop an online remarketing orientation course for entry level employees. The complete course contents will be presented at the Chicago meeting. IARA is partnering with Northwood University to have this course made available at cost. The course consists of twelve modules.
  3. IARA has also been reviewing the issue of vehicle grading scales in an attempt to see if standardization is possible. This subject will be discussed as one of the roundtable items in Chicago. IARA is seeking to endorse or recommend uniform practices in the remarketing industry where ever possible as a way to enhance the effectiveness of the industry.
  4. IARA, in partnership with Emercent Solutions, conducted a recent remarketing survey of remarketers and their use of upstream remarketing channels. Approximately 42% of the vehicles currently remarketed annually were included in the sample survey. The survey results are available at no cost to IARA members and for $100 to non-members. Other surveys are planned in the future for the benefit of the industry.
  5. The IARA honored Mike Richardson, now retired from ADT, with the IARA circle of excellence award at the winter meeting in Las Vegas. Mike was one of the early pioneers of the large auction chains and was instrumental in raising the professionalism of the auction industry.
  6. In Chicago, the IARA will submit a slate of directors for the next three years in accordance with the IARA by-laws, which call for staggered one year, two year, and, three year terms. The board meets monthly via teleconferencing. A slate of officers for 2005 will also be presented.
  7. The IARA also plans to present its remarketing achievement award at the Chicago meeting during the speaker’s luncheon on Thursday July 22.
  8. Sponsors for the IARA July roundtable meeting now include: ServNet; DentDemon; DiamondTriumph Glass; Grand Rapids Auto Auction; Honda Finance; and Manheim Auctions. Other sponsorships are still available.

The IARA is fortunate to have dedicated board members and committee members who volunteer their time to address industry issues and contribute their knowledge to improve the remarketing industry. Please contact me, Matt Marks, executive director at matthew@iaraonline.org if you wish to be a part of IARA committees.

I look forward to hearing from you and hope to see all of you in Chicago July 21-23.

Best personal regards,
